This experimental documentary is also a novel take on an industry whose traditionally bohemian work ethic has only recently been challenged by the growing number of Born Again Christians jumping the “body art bandwagon”. The interesting subjects in this documentary only put a face to the masculine and feminine aspects that drive these two, complimenting forces of nature.

Ecce Homo (pronounced [ˈɛkːe ˈhomo]) are the Latin words used by Pontius Pilate in the Vulgate translation of the Gospel of John (19:5), when he presented a scourged Jesus Christ, bound and crowned with thorns, to a hostile crowd shortly before his Crucifixion. Guido Reni’s painting of Ecce Homo is the most popular image of Christ in history. Most people who have a version of it etched in their flesh don’t realize they carry a version of the Italian Baroque master’s work, and a piece of art history, close to their hearts.

Guido also painted a beautifully emotional companion work called Mater Dolorosa, which depicts the sorrowful Mother. They were originally paired for display.
