There is nothing wrong with you choosing the Tree of Life. BTW, I don't believe it is offensive to get a japanese symbol..I have plenty of caucasian friends who have japanese symbols on them..what is important is that you get it with respect to the culture and really understand what the symbol means...it is always important to understand the culture around any symbol you have on your body from cultures other than your own. When in doubt, I recomend asking people from that culture. (more than one, because all people are not the same even if they have similar cultures.)
