Celtic cross tattoo is probably the most popular symbol coming out of Celtic art. People often get Celtic cross tattoos according to their religion and artistic preferences.

Celtic art which is a part of the Celtic culture is ancient and goes back approximately 3000 years. The Celtic art was spread all over Europe by the Celtic people who immigrated from place to place (All those who lived in Europe and spoke the Celtic language, where considered to be Celts – they were mainly Irish and Scottish).

Celtic art has evolved over the years, influenced by time and geography; starting from the Iron Age (1000BC), when the designs were consisted mostly out of oriental traditional elements.

Another contribution to Celtic designs was in Europe (around Britain and Ireland). The locals, who were a part of the Celtic culture, added their own interpretation and style to the designs.

The last tine Celtic art went trough changes was by modern Celts during the 18th century. Celtic art was “discovered again” after it was used by artists of that era and the modern Celts who looked to nationalize their heritage.

The complex designs of Celtic art, considered as very sophisticated patterns (among tribal art designs in general). The patterns are the most important thing in the design. Most of the crosses look more or less the same (the cross and the circle), but there are plenty of patterns, with different origins.

Celtic cross design has obviously evolved after we already had the traditional cross (After Christ was born). The Celtic people who followed Christianity, gave the cross their own personal touch. This was probably done, in order to get a stronger “connection” between Christianity and Celtic culture.

The Celtic cross has a circle that surrounds the connection point of the strait lines, which the traditional cross is made out of. The circle represents life and continuity.

Celtic cross tattoos, very often have special knots weaved in the design. The knots are an artistic development, an extra decoration, that started sometime around the fourth century.

One the most admired among the knots, is the trinity knot, which can remind you of the rings magicians use (its just not round). Other related designs from the Celtic art are: “claddagh” – which consists out of two hands holding a hart with a crown on top (was usually given as a sign of friendship and good luck), and the shamrock – which is a green flower with three leafs (Three is an important number in Christianity, and the shamrock was used as an example for the father, the sun and the holly spirit).

With all that said, you should have an idea of what are your options. Clearly, the Celtic cross tattoo design that you are looking for – could have lots of meaning. You should pay extra attention to the patterns that decorate the cross and circle, try to find out what is their origin and why they were drawn that way – this will insure a better “connection” between you and your chosen cross tattoo.

firstly A special thenks to Tattoorotary for the info on the foot switch. Always remember to clean all your equipment before use.
Take time to be creative in making a tattoo machine. Rotaries are good tattoo machines. There quieter than the coil, not as heavy and stay cooler. use proffesional ink and use propper needles when doing skin. Don’t do gang related signias on people, or a clover as the Arian Brotherhood own that. don’t do anything out side your limitations.
use a recomended streraliser liquid.
You will have to be twice a vigulant on being cautious and safe with hygien than a Proffesional Tattoo parlour as they have auto clave steralisers and a clean enviroment.
Never Tattoo under the infuence of any alcohol or drugs or hungover for that matter.
wear gloves and have clean hands and nails.
Practice on oranges, bananas, pigs trotters and do not Tattoo anyone till your totaly confident then start with simple small basic designs in areas that arn’t reveiled with normal light clothing.
Then maybe step up to repair other Unproffesional old tattoo’s after all you will less than likly make them worse than they are. Stay away from colours as they require a lot more skill. after the outline is done send em away and do another apointment about 3 weeks later so the lines settle then use a hite board marker to shade and see if it works before putting ink down, Keep old markers or doing lighter shades to.
You can be taken to court for damages if you do the wrong thing so keep it clean, this is parramount i cannot stress this enough.
Limbs can be lost and even life or hep C or aids amounge other things so hygien is the upmost important thing. I will have to do all this as well and thounds did before us so you not alowne with this. Change and use new needles as it will be a while before your next Tattoo its not like you will have a book full of appointments and don’t let people or frends push you to do them one if your not ready.

My Great Uncle George embodied the spirit of the Irish Travelers. He was my favorite uncle. He would fascinate me with stories of Ireland when I was young. I would like like to find some symbol, icon or some way of showing that I identify with these people in the form of a tattoo. Any suggestions?

The Irish Traveller Movement have a logo on their site which comprises of a horseshoe and the letters ITM incorporated into a ‘trailer’ or mobile home picture. Perhaps you could use this sign.

Suggestion:
Have your kids draw a four leaf clover and sign their name inside their own clover. Then, take the drawings to the tat shop and have them scaled down to the size you want. The tat artist can then make a small patch of clover rather than just one big clover. Each clover will represent your children and their creativity. Tat artists will trace them exactly as your children have drawn them~name and all!
Then, you have a personalized, meaningful and unique tattoo!
(I plan to get some of my kids "art" on my body soon!)

What unoriginal and uninsprired tattoos do you find annoying?

For guys I think it would be team logos, shamrocks and eagles with American flags.

For Girls I think it would be roses/ flowers (on the chest) butterflies and teddy bears.

Oh yes I know what you mean. I live in Canada where the most annoying guy tattoo is a Maple Leaf.
Like how unoriginal. Oh so you are Canadian eh? Yeah me to, do you want a medal or something?

What do they think they’ll someday leave Canada where it will be appreciated for its foreignness? I don’t get it
The most annoying Girl tattoos are ones on the lower back because EVERY GIRL it seems these days has one. I just want to tell them. Oh so I see you got a tattoo in the absolute most popular place to get a tattoo these days. I’m sure you did it to be unique, although it’s really not since you copied your other bar star best friend and her 2 sisters. Maybe you think you are a big bad coyote ugly bar maid now with attitude. I’m shaking in my boots to know how bad you are with your tattoo that you needed your entire family to holdyour had while getting with local anesthetic.
Just wait until low-rise jeans go out of style.
HAH

I have three tattoos. A Celtic cross on my back, a butterfly on my ankle, and a scorpion on my foot. I’m planning on joining the Marines soon. Will my tattoos be a problem?
Haha I figured I’d get a lot of crap about it. I was young and stupid when I got it though.
Yeah, I’m a girl.

Only offensive and gang related tattoos are disqualifying. You should be ok. You will get a lot of shit from your fellow Marines about that butterfly though lol.

The tattoo is on my right shoulder, will this disallow me from joining as an officer?
I’m talking about the Irish Defence Forces you twat.

I thought having at least one tattoo was compulsory in the military.

Seriously though, as long as the tattoo is not sectarian or otherwise offensive you’ll be OK. And you can always come and join the British army if the Irish one doesn’t let you in.

(LOL at the tit who thought you wanted to join the IRA!!!)

ok so im going to a tattoo party and im irish and getting my first tat. I have been looking for a irish clover with a claddagh ring around it or something like that. can any of you help with pics even if its just some kind of irish tat and where it should go. Thank you

In the state of Michigan what you are about to do is illegal. There are serious fines, and jail time to those that operate/tattoo like this. This is also a bigger health risk. Normally these are done out of a home, which is not a sterile environment. Does this home or wherever have an autoclave on site? How did they bring their materials? Are they licensed, trained (for how long, 1 week?), bloodborne pathogens certified, and do they autoclave all instruments touching you? Can they prove this to you? If they say "NO" to anyone of these questions, you are foolish to let them touch you. You run the risk of Hepatitis, HIV, MRSA (which can kill you).

As far as looking for art, you really need more time to think and decide what design you want on your body. How much time have you spent checking all the artist stuff out? These are major decisions that are/could be life changing. You have to live with the piece for the rest of you life. Laser hurts, and cover ups are more money-why? Get it right the first time. Please take your time and don’t jump the gun to get tattooed by a dirty one. Isn’t your life and you body worth that? People in this area/artists work like this for a reason, and it is not a good one. They could be the biggest hack in your area for all you know who happens to have a bad case of MRSA that he’s not telling you about. Please think twice about this, do NOT be pressured.

I am not trying to talk you out of a tattoo. First find out design you can live with forever. Be safe and go to a reputable artist at a shop, that can do all the above I mentioned.

Good luck, hope this help you.

i am looking to get a tattoo and was thinking about something along the lines of a 4 leaf clover( which represents luck) and the number 13 in the middle( which is supposed to be unlucky). Does anyone know where I can check out custom tattoos or does anyone have any good ideas?

ok well dont get a plain straght up green clover. My friends uncle showed us his clover tattoo and it was just a green blob. So i suggest (if you make it simple) get an outline of a clover in green with the number 13 in the center in some font. Another could be a clover with vines on the steam creating the number 13. I like your idea by the way.

Anyone ever seen these two symbols tattooed? and if so how did it look? I really would like to have these two symbols tatted on me, but i’m not sure where and what I could use to sort of make it flow. anyone have any ideas?
If anyone is wondering why I like those symbols
shamrock-irish heritage
fleur de lis- hurricane katrina

Why not put them on top of one another. Make the fleur de lis fairly big in one color, and then put the shamrock inside it in green (or whatever color… i’d just imagine you’d want green). I think that would be one way to incorperate them both into one another.

Everyone and their sister has a shamrock tattoo. They’re all over the place. Google both designs and see if there’s any pictures of them that you like. Then take them to the tattoo shop and tell them how you want it to look. I’m sure you could come up with something pretty awesome.

Good luck!

something along the lines of growth or something that is meaningful but also looks good with the symbol..I found a tree of life I like but unsure about the celtic and kanji together–please help

I think a lotus flower would go much better with a kanji symbol, or a cherry blossom. Get something that’s regional to the dialect, and the tattoo will be much more aesthetically pleasing. Here’s some images to help you out.

I’m thinking of getting a very small Celtic knot tattoo. It will be first tattoo. I wanted to put it on my right butt cheek but girlfriend said to put in small of back as “tramp stamp”. I don’t know if I want the tramp stamp. I think will be better on my cheek or just above it. I want to know which one think is sexier. Thank you.

I designed a custom Celtic-knot-cross that incorporates a Star of David in the center created by the knotting. It is highly detailed, black and gray, about 6 inches in height and about 4 3/4 inches in width. I am a skilled artist but have never sold my work. I had a friend of a friend over my house tonight and he saw it and said "That’s the sickest one of these I’ve ever seen. Can I get this tattooed on me?"

I would say $200-$300.

Tattoos that size can go for around $120-$200.

Just make sure the custom is really impressive before charging high.

I need somebody to please translate these 2 short quotes to irish gaelic. The first is "Love forever love is free" and the second one is "To thine ownself be true". I would reallllllllllllllly appreciate it very much.

‘Love forever, love is free’ translates to
‘Grá go deo, is saor an ngrá’

‘To thine ownself be true’ translates to
‘Fán dílis duit féin’
